Well, broke the pin and spiders. Which of course took out my entire front axle...

Ran a bunch of good trails and hillclimbs to get a feel for it, was on my way to a good trail for some action shots and videos. My girlfriend saw mud and wanted to hit it on the way. The Ranger didn't like that, blew up and got stuck. Yay fun day...! I signed in @ 9:15, and out @11:45ish.

oooh that sucks big time! Sorry bud. Time to go full width? Or to a 60?

Narrowed HP 44... I think.

I'm building an Ex on tons, as a family rig. The Ranger is gunna pretty much stay as is, besides a V8 swap and body protection this winter.

I was thinking the same thing, but between working midnight to 8am this week, and the fire dept keeping me busy when I was off work, I needed to catch up on some sleep pretty bad. Also had a wedding that I had to go to that evening. And I am about smack in between the two.

Was good to meet you though, and again that sucks about the breakage!

Is narrowing a 78-79 D44 as easy as it seems in the tech library...?

It would be nice to have decent driveshaft angles, and be able to unlimit my LF droop.

Doesn't matter I'm doing it anyway. High pinion here I come.

Just out of curiosity, why not just leave it full width? Maybe I'm missing something...

Cause I like how it fits through trees and tight trails. also trackbar and steering are already done. And my front chromoly axles aren't even a year old yet.

Makes sense. Just figured I would ask.

Yes. And you don't really need a press for the cast wedgies if you have access to about 6' of 3/4" or larger all thread, nuts/washers and an impact. You can "press" the wedgie back on very easily this way.

That's how I did mine. If you have any questions let me know. Also, dig through my build thread a ways back, I've got it all documented. Don't bother with grinding the welds out either, that takes too long. Cut the wedgie off with a bandsaw right at the face of the weld. Then grind the face of it down until the remaining weld is gone. Clamp it and beat the short piece of tube out with a huge punch. Then go back and cut the tube on the housing side to your desired dimension. I did it all in about 4 hrs taking my time. Finally, weld it all up. I 7018'd mine

Ugghhhh. Page 93 in case you were curious.
That's probably something like I'll end up doing.

Still trying to get a housing without driving to far. The one I found, the guy won't come down or meet me. I think $50 and me driving 1hr 15min is well worth it for him. I have it in my head that I'll pay no more than $75 on this, which is still too much for a gutted housing in my opinion.

Yeah 93-94 right in there is when I pressed the wedgie on. Sounds like you already rummaged through my whole build thread tho looking for it so you probably know better than I do! $75 for a bare housing is cheap...out here in CA everything is so damn expensive people want upwards of $100 for a housing and yards want $150+....so stupid

That's ridiculous! I got my complete '75 EB front-end for $200(IIRC maybe $150), complete hub-hub w/ all the suspension mounts torched @ frame. And that was in Jersey, before I moved out here where stuff is cheaper.
