like the one above.

I got windows XP on it now, the sticker says its compatible for vista, so I was wondering if I could upgrade it to 7? reason being that my XP is ****ed! its full of viruses and dont work good at all, my moms bf whos a computer guy can get me windows 7 if its anyway possible probably.
he also runs H&R Block all around this area so he got alot of experience and a virus protector thats only for buisnesses that he can put on my laptop
thanks guys

Yeah, 7 should work fine. I like it a lot better! Use Mozilla Firefox, free. and Avast security, free. You can go to u torrent and download it.

How can I get 7? where do i get it from? how much is it?
thanks

See above :p

if you can get it at educational discount like I did (wife works for Indiana U) it will cost you about 20 bucks or maybe even free. if not, look it up on Newegg. it will cost you a pretty penny there...

soorry i should of said he could put it on the computer if i wanted i just wanna get it some how lol

Loading a new OS isn't necissarily going to aaffect a virus problem.

Might I suggest you go online, go to "cnet downloads"

Then click on "Most popular" which will be AVG.

Download the sample version and do the full install.

Once that is done run a full scan and it should get rid of your problem.

a new OS won't affect a virus problem.

a New OS won't help a badly "fragmented" drive.

a new OS won't help a drive that is too near it's total capacity.

There are two defragging programs I like and either is better than the built in defragger
(which I'm almost willing to bet money you don't know how to find:)

Defraggler and "Smart Degfragger"

Both are available on cnet

Another one to get is one called "cc cleaner" that'll clean out your outdated registry files and all those pesky internet files that windows never gets rid of
(every picture you've ever seen on your computer is saved in those temp files!)

all that crap slows you down.

i heard that AVG is not a very good security system

why dont u just restore the computer to the factory default? i dont know if u can do that in XP but i did it in vista. it should delete the viruses and temporary crap, you have to copy all ur stuff because i will get deleted.

Well, I've never had a computer virus and all I've ever used is AVG
(the free version) for Anti-Virus backed up by BOTH Ad-Aware
and "Spybot - Search & Destroy" to deal with "Malware" & "advertising trackers"

I wonder why anyone would say anything bad about AVG unless they are pushing something else....

AVG-free works as well or better than the commercial programs
that you pay big bucks for and have to have an active subscription for.

I remember a complaint about AVG where someone was saying it was "Bloat ware" because it took up almost 100megs of space... (92 megs and change on my system.. Oh, like 92 megs of space is significant on an 80gb drive?

But it's painfully obvious that whatever he's got now isn't worth
a puddle of warm piss.... that you just found while walking around
in your socks... (there's a mental imnage for you...)

AVG is often the #1 download at cnet... for a reason

It's not so much AVG, as it is your browser, When I used to run Microsoft Explorer I got infected a lot, now that I'm running Mozilla Firefox, nothing. I had some issues with AVG too, but I run Avast now from the advice of my brother who is a computer tech and it rocks and it's free.

Going from XP to 7 isn't just as easy as popping in the disk and upgrading. There is no way to direct upgrade from XP to 7. You have to reformat the hard drive.

So if there is any info you don't want to lose, you must back it up prior to the 7 install.

You can BUY 7 from any retailer that sells PC software.

Reload your xp. do a format and do a reload.
If you got the win7 route you will need a full version of win7. the upgrade version of win7 needs vista to upgrade.

AVG is a good antivirus have been running it for years. I switched to Avast about a month ago and avast is smaller and way faster then AVG and has a higher detection rate that AVG.
avoid downloading off piriatebay this is how you get virus' to start with.

well i think the virus protection im getting now is Norton but im not positive, its the industrial(?) version for buisnesses and crap. i dont wanna change to 7 just because i have viruses id just like to have 7. but i guess ill just get the xp fixed for now and then get vista later. and i dont really care if i loose all my stuff on it
