I've just installed a set of heated, leather power recline bucket seats into my 1989 Ford Ranger extended cab. I'm prouder than a new father with the outcome. The truck originally came with a 60-40 split bench that was functional but for me, being 6'6"; not adequate. The backs were very low and had no headrest. A change had to be made.
After reading the tech here on swapping seats and reading that 1986 XR4Ti seats were an easy swap; I searched craigslist fervently for a set of Merkur XR4Ti bucket seats. I'll tell ya now they are somewhat hard to come by. During my search I happened on a thread that implied that Scorpio and XR4Ti seats were interchangeable. I began searching for Scorpio seats. As luck would have it I found a craiglisting here in my hometown that had a set available. $100 for the set. I jumped on them.
When I got them home I realized that the power seat frame in no way was going to be a bolt in application.....plan B....
I removed the power seat frame from the bottom of the Merkur seats as I was not going to be able to use them. I also removed the seat frames from the Ranger seats and with four bolt holes drilled into the Merkur seats; I was able to use my frames to install these awesome seats.
They are without a doubt the most comfortable bucket seats I could have put into this vehicle. They are like floating on a cloud while I'm driving around.
