My truck is a 96 Ranger Splash, 2.3L Manual. I've been looking to do some major upgrades for the engine, mostly putting in a bigger one, and fitting a turbo.

What I would like to know is how big of an engine can I put in without modifications? I was looking at a 4L SOHC V6 but I wasnt sure if it would work.

Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Because Im not sure if my engine could take it. it has 250k miles and is running like its been a hard 250k. i would have to either rebuild or replace the engine to put the turbo on, so i figured i might as well put in a little bigger engine when i put in the turbo.

Without any modifications at all?

A 2.3L. Any other engine will require wire work, a new computer, and a new trans (except the 2.5).

i know that, i meant like cutting pieces off or a taller hood. stuff like that.

then how big of an engine?
