Hello everyone I was having some issues with my truck and I was told by the mechanic that I have a misfire and since I replaced my wires and plugs recently that is it probably the coil pack. However he said that he has to update the pcm with the new part number in order for it to work. Is this correct?

Thanks

I really doubt it. I've never heard of flashing a PCM just for a coil-pack change. Hopefully one of the big wig tech guys like Allen or someone will chime in for ya, as i'm also curious if this is true or not. Rediculous if it is.

You might have a TSB on your model year.
One way to find out is go to NHTSA.gov and plug in your model and look for bulletins, recalls. If there aren't any for your drivability concern, I'd just replace the coilpack and reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and turning on the headlamps.

If this is at a Ford dealer, they should be happy to show you the notice that a reflash is recommended. Should be some kind of Ford TSB or whatnot. Otherwise, I'd pass on that upsell.
