Hello, my 94 Ranger with 4.0 engine is skipping and lacking power until it gets warmed up. It was lacking power this morning and all of a sudden, it got a burst of energy and got power back. Then it started loosing power again so I pulled off the road, it was idling fine but would not rev up when I press the gas pedal. I shut it off for a minute or two and restarted and drove off like nothing was wrong. It did this two or three times before I got it back home. I did replace the battery because advance auto check showed that it needed replaced. The CE light came on a few times while it was acting up but did not light up after restarting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Randy

Cleaning the MAF sensor could fix it

MAF is the dominant sensor for fuel air mix, also make sure the air tube from MAF to intake is crack free, any air leaks will throw off the MAF info going to the computer.

If you have an OHM/Volt meter I would test the ECT(engine coolant temp) sensor, this is the "choke" for fuel injected engines, they rarely fail but would throw up a CEL if they were out of range.
This is not the same as the "sender" for the dash board temp gauge(1 wire), the ECT is a 2 wire sensor only used by the computer.

TPS(throttle position) sensor could have some dead spots, it tells the computer where your foot is on the gas pedal, inside it is like a volume control, so a simple resistance "knob", voltage goes up and then down depending on where it is, computer sets fuel mix based on that voltage.
Best to test this with key on engine off, use a couple of sewing pins to pierce the wires then hook up volt meter to see if voltage goes up and down with out jumping around, nice and steady is what you want to see

Reading the CEL history might help pin point the issue.
