Unused wire?

I replaced the stock 16 pin connector on my 2003 Ford Ranger, Edge model, no amplifier due to a damaged clip on the original. I picked up the new 16 pin connector from a local audio shop and noted that one of the wires from the harness had no pin on the replacement connector. On the following diagram, the pin is listed as "F" and is red wth a black stripe.

The diagram states that this is not used but I cannot figure out why my radio would have it connected. The radio works properly without it connected (ACC, ignition, etc.) and apparently it is not needed, but I am still bothered by the fact that the wire was there in the first place. Does anybody know why disconnecting this wire would have no effect on the function of my radio? What was it used for in the first place? As a side note, I terminated the wire with a clip and secured it out of the way of the harness.

Regards,

Garry

Found it...

Well, after some poking around, I found that the unconnected wire is the "Fused Ignition" wire (#3). I still do not know why it is not needed, can anybody here please explain why this wire is unnecessary for the proper operation of my radio???

ford manufactures that harnes for many vehicles. It is used in another cars, and not in yours. There are many wires that are not needed on lots of cars. your truck does not have ignition 3 that is why it is not used. You only have ignition 1. That is the same harnes used in lincons, and mercurarys, some of those cars have a third ignition. In cars with third ignition they have no ignition 1 at the radio.
