Um....maybe buying a Chevrolet......

So what's your point, you're lucky enough to own the exception to the rule?

No, in Will's mind, any vehicle he owns is automatically better than anything you own. It can tow heavier loads, get better fuel economy, drive faster, and handle better. You should ask him about his Pilot sometime... 9,000# in an 88 Chevy, no rust, and 20 mpg? Must have been sitting in a ziploc bag for the last 20 years.

Every truck has it's good and bad points, I'm a Ford fan through and through, so for me, there's really no reason to even look at the competition. Call me an idiot if you want, but that's the way it is.

Actually as I recall it was a forest service truck with obsenely low miles when he got it. Those trucks are not all that heavy and he has a banks on the 6.2, I would say 20 mpg is more than plausable.

Well i bought one....

2.9\5sp\2wd\3.73 rear.

So far i love it....believe it or not, since tuesday i have put almost 700 miles on it already. Getting mid 20's for mileage, not to bad, its got alot of giddy up to it though, I can roast them in 1st, 2nd, and chirp going into 3rd. Its not quite as torquey as my old Ranger with the 2.9L 6 cylinder, but definatly not bad for a 4 cylinder.

Reliabilty wise i cant speak for yet, but we'll see what happens.

Dont worry, i still have a ton of Fords...and i still bleed blue.

later,
Dustin

Can't really blame ya. Some how, I've been getting a place in my heart for a GM truck. Thou, GM always comes second to my Ford Ranger. Hope Ford don't srcew it up in the future. I'll still remember you as the "Great Defender of the 2.9 (Ford's V-6)".

As to my truck, it's been going to events for years and lots of people have seen it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2307876

I've said Chevy SLA handles better than TIB. This is true in my opinion.

Everything I've ever claimed I have supported as best I could with documentation and examples. I've offered thousands of times to road test against people and we've done it once and I turned out to be wrong. I can take it. If you prefer me shouting louder and louder and then resorting to personal attacks like you did--forget it. When I'm arguing with someone it is never for the benefit of the person I'm arguing with, it's for other people that might actualy like to hear the truth and not homer-based Ford lover bullshit.

My 6.2 diesel gets 20mpg--and so does everyone else's 6.2 diesel. So does your 460 or whatever?

Ah, see that's the kind of information that would have been helpful in the previous post. Maybe mention the fact that it never saw salt or high miles in it's former life. As Totalled asked (or stated), you do own the exception to the rule and it's a nice looking truck. It's hard to say that about 90% of the other trucks from that era in the Midwest or anywhere else they salt the roads.

My old truck gets around 12 mpg on a good day, but it's more than 20 years older than yours, and towing with four wheel manual drum brakes can be a good time unless you need to stop fast. So it's not even a comparison.

So what you're saying here is that because I'm a Ford fan, my opinions=Ford lover bullshit? Whereas your opinions would be the "truth". Damn, it must be hard to be you. I wasn't arguing with you Will, I was stating that you have an over-exaggerated sense of vehicular self worth. That's a statement that can be backed up by your own posts. But we don't need to go dig up that thread.

Bottom line is this: This is a FORD RANGER FORUM (and other RBVs). I'll never understand the need to post up here and say that you're going to go buy XX brand because you've had enough with a Ford. If you do, expect a little flaming and "Ford lover bullshit" to fly. It's only natural.

If you're talking Chevy just ignore Pat (totalled). He is very anti Chevy...you could have a perfectly running 450,000 mile Chevy that has never had an oil change, been in 13 wrecks, and been sitting underwater for 3 years and he'd still say they're the shittiest trucks around.

But....my Chevelle will whip your F-100s ass any day Pat:taunt::taunt:

please don't kick me off of B2.org...lol

I am neutral and unbiased. People only listen to me when something I say goes against what they think.

For instance, I've said that the 300-6 is not the torque monster that everyone says it is--but I've also said it is a motor I like very much. I've said the SOHC 4.0 will whip the pushrod 4.0's butt, but that the pushrod 4.0 is my favorite RBV engine. I've said the Honda 3.5 will whip various motors butts installed in the Ridgeline or Pilot, but I've never said it would be a good idea to use a Honda for a real truck. I've offered to hook mine up to a trailer for a one time competition to prove my point, but I don't use mine for that, do I?

This might be a Ranger website but Ford is not a religion. I've said many times why I own one--it's tough, it's erector-set easy to work on and modify. They have acceptable engines available, the axles are old-style ones that are easy to service. The early ones with the all-C-channel frames are thick enough to rust a dozen Toyotas under the table. You can weld things on the ends--mine has a snow blade on the front and a homebuilt winch mount. I use it for a yard truck and drive it whenever I don't have to haul kids. It suits me. I'm not in love with it. I'm not in love with my Chevy either. I have it for totally practical reasons. The Honda is my wife's and I doubt I have driven it 20 times.

My happiest automotive years were when I took the Metro to work--and I don't mean Geo Metro. I'm a boat guy.

Hey chevell kid...what year of chevelle do you have? My dad had a '69 and loved it. He sold it because me and my brothers were born. It was a beauty...and I love those cars!

1972 Chevelle. It's a rust bucket but it's a fun car. It's slowly being restored while I try to pay for all the stuff for my Bronco, guitars, and my Chevelle.

64,67 and 70 chevelles were bad ass.

67-72 GM trucks were tough. But 73-79 Ford's were the toughest trucks ever built bar none.

Dont worry, i still love my little 87 Ranger. Its given me more service then I ever expected from it, and it still gets drivin. Just not worked to death like it used to be. No occasinal trips to the hardware store or hauling junk to the dump. Or just driving around.

Honestly though, for the Colorado supposdly having 185HP and 190FTLBS on tap it still dont feel as strong as the 2.9L V6. I havent actually lined them up nose to nose but id say even with 300K rusty's little 2.9L is still stronger. But i will say the colorado really turns on at 3500RPM.

As for the 73-87 GM's, I know they rust, I know the doors dont fit right, and they rattle, clank, bang, smoke, and do other noises they probely shouldnt. But ill tell ya what, Ive seen them things overloaded by tons, in rockerpanel deep mud, ran into things, rolled, neglected, beat, abused, etc etc and they never give up. Kinda like the 73-79 Fords.

Thats what makes a tough, good truck in my mind.

And my all-time favorite Ford Truck...my dad has an 89 f-250 with a 460 that my grandpa bought brand new. Sold it to my dad for $1 and now I want to buy it.
Um....maybe buying a Chevrolet......
[/QUOTE]

I hate to tell you but that's not an 89. It's 92 or newer or the front clips been changed. RB

The bronco that the rock drove?

I suppose you think those junk japyotas are tougher then a 73-79 F series? If so then you are crrrrrrrazy.

Dustin

Would you like to talk about Toyota and rust...I will show you all my cancer...oh wait...it doesn't have any:thefinger::thefinger::thefinger:

Fine. Let's weld a 1/4" angle onto it.

But those boxed frames do rust around here. They are all dead. I spray out my vehicles when the weather allows to get rid of the salt but my Mazda was boxed and I could not adequately get the frame clear in the amount of patience God assigned me. The open C is a lot better for use around here.
