so i live in a pretty decent neighborhood. not alot of kids. mostly older people. so i wasnt to worried about my truck or the system that i put in it....just recently. until one of my buddies that lived right down the street told me that some one robbed his ride. took all his subs, amps, tv, head all of it.. gone. i asked if he set his alarm that nght...he laughed...told me to roll over to his pad( 2 HOUSES OVER) SO UPON WALKING UP..IT LOOKED LIKE HIS HOOD WAS POPPED....i was like dam dude did they jack your engine too? open his hood and my jaw dropped....they went under his ride...got some kinda wire cutters, snipped his pop cable to his hood latch..popped his hood ...cut his battery cable...and they were in...

me, after installing a clifford 2 way alarm and a backup battery and siren..i was freaked out...so i made this....my rig is theft proof now.....enjoy..

Not bad. you should have painted it black before installing it so one none would see it.

nice man 1/2" emt show those stupid worthless punks, too bad their couldn't be something so when they are going to open the hood it sawz their fingers off but then you run into the chance of sawing of your own fingers!

That's a great idea. Looks factory too.

Now if it was only legal to hook up a 50,000 volt coil wire to it when the alarm is set

With an aftermarket alarm, isn't there a sensor for the hood being opened?

Unfortunately the best you can do with a determined thief is make him go look for an easier target.

I've heard of thieves drilling through the fender into the battery. Acid leaks out and dead battery=no alarm.

you should put a little note on it that says eff you asshole

how sensitive are the shock sensors? i wouldnt think that popping the hood would be enough to set it off.

i know some alarms have a switch on the hood, that might be mostly for remote starters though

Looks nice. I just pooped mine the other day when the cable froze up by hitting the latch with a screwdriver. No cable access needed. Still looks clean though. I like the "cars in the garage with ADT alarm set", as my theft protection. No windows you can see through (tinted), and no windows in the doors.

Well it's going to be most sensitive up front where the sensor is located.
My alarm has the perfect balance of sensitivity. Depending on how hard the shock is, my alarm will just give off some warning chirps if it's a light shock, and will sound the full alarm after a big shock. I folded my mirror in the other day and it did the warning chirp. Sometimes I pull up on my tonneau to make sure it's locked and it will chirp. A light bang on the hood and the full alarm will sound. I know it's not too sensitive though because if the warning chirp or full alarm goes off, it will give a different chirp when I push the unlock button - and it's never done that.
I have a Clifford alarm/remote start combo.

Everytime i ha an alarm that was sensitive enough to work car exhausts set it off all night so no one would look anyhow. Including me. That's how I ended up with the alarm on the garage idea. Motion and glass breakage.

Yeah there's no substitute for a garage!

But that's what's cool about my alarm, it ignores exhaust and subs - and anything else you don't want to set it off. I've had an alarm that won't go off if you beat it with a baseball bat, and another that would go off if a bird feather hit the ground in Zimbabwe.
Best of all, it chirps from light taps to the rear sliding window. I keep a thin piece of wood in the channel anyway, but it's nice to have in case anyone has any ideas of breaking in through the back window.

ya i know its weird...there is no switch so if the hood opens its goes off....i dont know why...gay i know. mine is pretty sensitive...cant smack the truck any where or itll go off. the reason why i installed the bar is so they dont do damage to my cable or latch. because if they did drill a hole through my fender int my battery( which they would need a damn thick bit) it wouldnt matter...because as soon as they broke a window or what ever, my alarm would still go off....back up battery and hidden siren...i got two sirens on my rig...not like they can get my sub box out anyways...haha

Pardon my :icon_confused:, but what is that? I have a good alarm from Alpine I have been running for 11 years. I bought it new and have every pin, hood, doors, tailgate, and bed sensors. It will go off it you actually make contact with it. NO motion sensors I hate those stupid things. I have the shock sensor turned all the way up & a warning chirp. The alarm will chirp to let you know it has 1 on there & 5 sirens. I have a 2 way Alpine pager that stays with me constantly, so if anybody make the alarm chirp or go off I know about it right away. My back up is my Rottie.

You have a properly trained attack dog?

okay..without you having one of these....people would be able to rip you so hard.....cause as soon as they pop the hood all they got to do is one snip and the battery is gone...but im guessing your truck is at least 11 years old sence your alarm is..and 11 year old truck really arent targets...ya digg.

I know nothing about breaking into vehicles, but I have always heard the Ranger has a reputation for multiple, easy ways to break in. That's why I got my alarm installed after owning the truck only 2 days.
