Ultimate off road vehicle

Hey folks

For quiet some time I am interested in off road vehicles. I am searching for the limits. The most extreme off road vehicles I've found are rock crawlers, the vehicles of the formula offroad, monster trucks, baja and rally dakar.

While one has an enormous traction, the other huge size and the third great speed I still am on the hunt for my personal ultimate off road vehicle that travels every terrain with a decent speed and almost no worries. An empty lake? 2 feet rock or 2 feet thick tree? That shouldn't be a problem.

The problem is to find a vehicle that can handle these requirements. I found a youtube video of a monster truck with independent suspension. But I am not sure about the strength of the chassis or the speed of it in real off road terrain. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81vJiIC000s

Now I came to this site to talk about my search for my ultimate off road vehicle.

I hope for some great discussions.

Excuse my english please. It's not my mother tongue.

Cheers

Sounds like a Unimog is what you want...the ex-governor of california, that Terminator dude, is selling his I hear. Also on Wheeler Dealers recently they were in Poland and found a military surplus place that had everything used from Eastern Bloc nations...from tanks to rocket launchers to mogs. Go for it.

I'd say if you took a ranger and threw $50k at it you'd do something spectacular...

A 65 VW bus with a Porsche engine. With room for 7 people and reduction gears on the axles, If it wont go over an obstacle, it can be carried over it :D

Thanks for all these great answers. Good that you mention the unimog. So far I come to the conclusion that a mix between a motorhome Unimog and an ultra4 racer would be the thing I am looking for. Something that is realy great at geting over crazy terrain while being able to perform long tripps to deserts and stuff. :derisive:

I think I would need to modify the axles of an ultra4 racer. Making them bigger and stronger to match the weight and size of an unimog. And for sure modify its engine. :icon_welder:

i find that a ranger with lockers and 33's goes far beyond where i ever imagined it would go. im pretty sure that any ranger with lockers front and rear and 35-40's would go just about any where you wanted...

I don't want to "go" anywhere. I want to be at a decent speed. It should almost be like being in a boat. You are flying over the lands and the suspension is making everything smooth for you.

in that case ttb with air shocks should do you just fine.

Sounds to me like you are looking for a hovercraft.

Nope, he clearly expects a suspension of some sort as well as directional steering...I think.
