over in the uk and europe. they have a variant of the 2.9 that is essentially the same block with different heads and such. BUt they have turbo and twin turbo setups for their cars and i weas wondering if anyone looked into aquireing the bottom end of one of those to build a american 2.9 turbo. I think they run a forged bottom end....just food for thought

Not sure, but that may be something similar to the Merkur's engine. Ford sold Merkurs for a while, years ago. It is food for thought, though.

I have always toyed with the thought of getting a murkur scorpio and doing a 4 liter swap in it, I think that would be kind of neat.

European 2.9's were Cologne engines. These were much better than the American 2.9's.
Ford thought they could go cheap over here and they were correct. Misinformed consumers bought them in droves because they had a blue oval on them and thier parents and NASCAR gods drove them.

Why do people have such a hard time handling the truth?

2.9Ls over here can take large amounts of boost with the correct tuning. There have been a few to break 20+ psi and theres been many 4.0ohvs to break 20+psi

wasnt it the late 80's 2.9's that were the american motor, and 89-90 that was the cologne?

cause the last I checked, my ranger has the cologne...

Ok...i need to set ya'll straight on the 2.9L....

There is no "US" 2.9, or "Colonge" 2.9.

All 2.9;s were built in germany. None is better then any other one, there all the same, from 86-92. Other then a few techincal difference tween years there all the same engines.

Dustinw

This is partly true. They are ALL Cologne engines, as you said. However, there were some differences in the European car versions, as well as some Cosworth engines only available there, etc. However, the short blocks are all the same as far as I know.
