i went to go pick up some u-joints for my truck, the front axel, the middle one on the dana 35 is out, they asked me what size i needed, they gave me the choices 1.188 and 1.063 and i have no clue, wondering if you guys knew what the right one was, its a 90 ranger supercab, 4.0 m5od 1354 and a dana 35. thanks

A Dana 35 joint is a Dana 35 joint. Either one should work, you just couldn't swap caps from one type to the other.

Just tell them you want a Spicer 297-x joint, or if you want a stronger joint you can get a Spicer 5-760x for a little more.

the numbers you listed are referring to the diameter of the caps on the u joint. the best way to find out is to measure the caps after you remove the joint or just buy both and return the one you dont use if you have no other vehicle to drive after you disable the ranger.

1.188.

Spicer 5-297X or 5-760X (<preferred)

So there are two different types of Dana 35 shafts? Each with different size holes on the ears?

But the difference between a D35 and D28 cap diameter is much more than a tenth of an inch, AFAIK..

Could it be that the number represents the height of the cap? That's what I always thought it was.

The D28's caps are 1.062" dia. The u-joint cross is almost half the width of a D35 joint though (tiny little things).
