I wasnt really sure where to put this thread so I threw it in hear. I recently started hearing a fairly loud squeaking coming from the back half of my truck. It seemed to be something rotating because it got faster as i accelerated and did it mostly in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear and stopped in 4th and 5th. My manager at work said it was the u joints. In the last week or so it has become much quieter and almost sounds like a heat shield rattling, but I havent checked that yet. I only have like 56-57k miles. Could it be possible that i need new u joints already? It cant be my tranny or diff. I just flushed them both out myself so I know it was done right:icon_thumby:

any feedback is greatly appreciated,

Sam

Best thing to do is get under there, unbolt the driveshaft and start inspecting things. A bad u-joint that's just starting to go will be stiff when you move it around, or it may actually have play in it (if it's already been bad for awhile).

to check for u joints, jack the back of your truck up so both tires are off the ground, put your truck in neutral and go underneath and kinda "wiggle" the drive shaft like a quarter turn by hand and if the u joints are bad you will hear it clunk, keep us posted

i hav tha same problem nd i am changing my U joint....

Driveshaft u-joints in good condition don't normally break. Improper operating angles/excessive spring wrap, or lack of lube is what kills them.

Almost anything except the cheapest stuff will be fine for the driveshaft (if you want best quality, then get genuine Spicer joints)
