I'm going to build a couple of spare D 35 shafts for my B II's. I went to the local NAPA to get 5-760X Spicer joints and was met by the standard slack jawed stare. Long story short, I ended up on line looking for the joints and ran across some Alloy joints with greaseable caps and full circle clips for a few bucks more. Has anyone any experience with these ujoints? Good....bad??

Link? I would bet they aren't as good. 5-760x are as good as it get as far as I'm concerned. Have yet to break one, and I am not nice to my rigs.

id give you a stupid stare too since we dont sell spicers and i dont know theyre numbering system, but i would have been happy to find you the equivalent in the Precision Super Strength brand. i too would like a link to check out these alloy joints, seems ive read about them somewhere else too?

They run from as low as $33 to over $50 for the same joint. The upgrade is the ability to grease the caps. I ordered 6 on line to build my D35 axles. One set is a spare and the other axle will be going in the D44 knuckled D35 for my newest BII.

And I would have used the parts you sell. These retards won't even look for anything. If you want more than an oil filter or scented Christmas trees you're screwed around here.

Alloy X-joints should be excellent stuff as well (they are cold-forged like the Spicer 5-760x). Having the clips means you won't have to go chasing them down elsewhere (of course you still have to mod your shafts for them).

I've seen the Spicers for as little as $20 each on Ebay though.

Provided that there IS an equivalent (in the past, even the best joints from other brands (and part store house brands) were still using hot-forged crosses, though I haven't gone checking for them very recently).

those do look like good joints, i like how they have the ability to grease all the caps individualy instead of trying to flush all of them out at once. i did some checking on the Precision joints but cant get a clear answer on theyre construction, they say theyre forged but dont specify hot or cold, typical auto mfgf marketing BS.

I would think that if they were cold-forged, they'd brag about it.

Though if you have one on hand to look at, you should be able to tell by whether it has a circular forging in the center.

Hot-forged joints typically have flat centers like the one on the right:

I run these J.E. Reel cryo joints. Good stuff! I am through with dealing with auto parts stores and finding good joints.

Forged Body from high strength alloy steel
Cryogenic Treatment increases strength & durability
Stronger Trunnion, larger diameter radius reducing fracture points
Waterproof Seals: water & mud stays out, grease stays in
Secial Waterproof Grease: high temp & high pressure
40% Stronger & more durable than o.e. u-joints

according to the pics 4x4junkie posted the precisions are hot forged. theyre still strong enough for my ranger, but thats not saying much.

The D35 and D44 use the same 760X joint. I run the JE Reels and Yukon chromo axles along with a front lockrite, doubler and 35's. I just didnt trust the stock shafts and joints. I wanted OX joints, but they went out of business :bawling:
