Any progress on the transmixer front yet?

Was that for danger?

I am going to get that tranny and transfer case on Tuesday, he wants $100 for both. I'm sure I can sell the transfer case for at least $50 and get my money back. He said the truck only has 88k miles on it.

You and your 8?-95 V8 vs 97-08 V6 M5OD shift fork project.

Oh, i havent touched it since the shifter sliced my finger lol :annoyed:. I am getting a newer transmission on Tuesday, but i might still try to get it to work so i can sell it. It doesn't seem like it would take much effort to grind down the forks, the ones from the v8 look like they are made of steel and the v6 ones of aluminum, so with it being soft i cant see it taking much effort to sand it down.

What is the newer trans?

The aluminum is probably thicker because aluminum is weaker than steel by quite a bit.

Its one from a 02 v6 f150.

Dang, that is pushing the easy button. :icon_thumby:

Wish I could find a deal like that, swapping in an M5OD is on my to-do list... its down on the list though because of the cost and work (trans, clutch, pedels...) involved though.

I bet you could come out ahead on the deal, $50 sounds cheap for that popular of a t-case. Is it manual or electric?

Yeah, but its gonna cost me a bit more money :icon_twisted:

I am gonna still mess with the other one to see if i can get it to work so i can post on how i did it for future builds :icon_thumby:

I wonder if you could swap the parts that the forks go into so you wouldn't have to compromise their strength?

:icon_confused: Pound for pound, Aluminum is actually STRONGER than steel.

Inch for inch it is not.

If you notice between similar things (like wheels) the aluminum is a lot bulkier than steel because it is a lighterweight but weaker material. It comes out "stronger pound for pound" because it is much lighter, not because it is much stronger.

Aluminum will bend much easier than steel which is why I am going to guess they made the forks thicker on the newer trans.

Well just got back from picking up the tranmission and t-case, was worried it was going to take longer because the guy said we were going to have to pull it, but he called me while i was on my way and said he went ahead and pulled :yahoo:. I got the transmission, t-case and driveshafts for $100 :yahoo:

What kind of t-case is that? Like I said before, I just got my np208 to fit.

I think it is a borg warner 4406, I don't think it will fit. But I got it for $50 so if I can sell it for always that amount I would be happy.
