any ideas on a special way to go about either running a turbo or a supercharger on an 07 3.0L? ran into a pile of cash and wanna lay some rubber

Whipple made a bolt on kit, that would be that fastest and easiest way to go, but its been discontinued for a few years and they're tough to find. You'd also have to have the truck tuned. Here's one for sale: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=264463

Tom Morana makes an intake manifold that allows an m90 or m112 to be bolted on as well, but you'd be on your own as far as injectors, MAF, intake tubes and tuning go.

Anything turbo would have to be all custom. Do your homework.

Why do people insist on turboing or supercharging these things there is probably a good reason why there is not a simple way to do it, my guess is that its just suger coating a turd and nobody has put the time into making a kit to do it. I also have a 3.0 and the chance that the turbo or supercharger would keep breaking other stuff because these trucks are not set up for this kind of stuff would be pretty high. It just seems that you would be spending a lot more money down the road fixing everything you break then these trucks are worth. Im not telling you what to do its your money but im just trying to add a little perspective to the situation.

Yes eventually you will break things in the drive line when you add power, but people break things 4 wheeling too, along with added load from larger tires & lifts etc. Rangers were not designed & built to do some of that type of off-roading that many use their Ranger for, but the trucks do it quite well. My rear end center section wore the pin hole almost completely out while the truck was totally stock, I replaced it with a trac-loc posi unit as the cost was almost identical to the open diff carrier. As for sugar coating a turd, as you put it, it's pretty nice to take a $4-6K Ranger head to the track and commence beating up on a $20-$25K "Muscle Car" all day long. I have got to say from my experience these little 3.0's are tough & can take 18psi with a good tune for a long time. Of course this isn't the most engine mod friendly Ranger site, most will tell you to leave it stock, for some that is fine, for those with a passion for something different it's just that much more fuel for the fire to mod. As for the original posters question regarding a SC or turbo, M90 & 112 SC generate a ton of heat, and Stmitch is dead on about a Turbo being totally custom, you need to do your homework & you need some really good fabrication skills as everything will be custom. As for a turbo platform its hard to beat a 2.3 on 25+ psi of boost, they will scream & there are a ton of forged parts available for building a strong motor. Good, strong parts for a 3.0 are very hard to come by & expensive.

fourwheelford: First off to put it simply ... Because they CAN. Second if you hate the motor that much and think it's a turd why didn't you something else.

I've been thinking about doing this for awhile too the way I would do it (if you were to go the turbo route) Mount it under the cab or further back on the exhaust best spot would be before the cat if you plan on keeping it run some nice braided line for your oil lines and just tube it back up into the engine bay. (yes that over simplifying the whole ordeal but heck it's not a complicated system)

Whipple Bolt on For Sale

I have a almost brand new Whipple Super Charger sitting in my garage. It came off a 04 Edge. I have all parts (air box, belt, plugs, injectors, throttle & c.c.cables) and intructions to install. Whipple used my truck to write eng. codes for the 04's. This thing rocked! I was verry impressed. Whlipple will reflash your comp. for $200-$300. Make me an offer...
