I took the Ranger for a long drive up I5 today. 240 miles round trip running 60-75 mph with a couple of pretty good hills thrown in. Had a few minor problems.
First one, the speedometer quit about 11 miles out. I gotta figure out how to replace that plastic clip that holds the cable to the back of the housing.
When I got to the swap meet, I get a cloud of steam from under the hood when I parked. I got coolant leaking around the threads of the fitting on top of the turbo housing.
On the way home I stopped at a rest stop. When I got back to the truck I noticed a spot of oil under the front of the truck. Oh, great. The front seal is leaking.
I do enjoy driving it on the freeway. If i'm doing 60 and the speed limit jumps to 70, I just roll into the throttle and listen to that boost for a few sconds and it's there. Now I gotta find an M50D-R1 tranny for it.:icon_cheers:

you really cant replace that clip very easily. i broke mine on a napa cable because it was too short. i ended up cutting the clip off of my old cable and using zip ties to hold it on the new one as a temp fix. the clip is smaller than the ends of the cable, so you need to either cut the clip or cut the cable. your best option is to buy a new cable. ive got one i just bought on ebay that i will be putting on my truck once the rain stops.

Back when I had mine I also got much better gas mileage... The stock truck was so underpowered at 75-80 the truck had to have the throttle over 50% to maintain speed thus forcing it to remain in open loop. Pre-Turbo got 20 city and 16 highway... Post I got 24 highway... (but city dropped due to mashing it from light to light... ;)
