I just bought a 96 ranger x-cab 2 wheel drive. It already had fiberglass fenders front and rear, lift(I think 4"), 33's, bed shock cage, prerunner bumpers front and rear but the 3.0 was also bone stock. With 3.45 gears it was a real pig and 5th gear was only for down hill-and steep at that. I recently bought a 92 ranger with a 2.3 turbo and t-5 trans that I transplanted into my 96. It also came with an 8.8 with 3.73s but even they aren't low enough so I'm thinking 4.56 or maybe 4.88. The truck is truly a blast to drive with the new engine. It still doesn't idle perfectly but tuning is what this forum is about. Lots of great info and people who aren't afraid to get greasy. This is the best Ranger sight I've seen.
