So I want to turbo my 2.3, push 80 to 100 hp more out of it to bring it around 200 hp, I'm really worried about the stock C3 transmission. Should I invest even more and buy a better Tranny or could I push the C3 to around there. I don't know what the exact torque figures are but we'll see, and this is to the flywheel not RWHP.

Thanks, Cole

Go earn a pile of money. Get a pro shop to build your transmission. Hope. The C3 was designed to be used with engines that produce 1/2 the HP/Torque you want. To make them work and last requires spending money. You can make it handle the power, but you might be better off finding something else. One of the transmissions used behind a 4.0 might handle the power for a longer period of time without failing. The bell housing pattern is not the same... spelled M.O.N.E.Y., at least I think so.

I would suggest trying to find one that they used in the Turbo Coupe...they will handle that and more...and I've heard from several people both on here and other sites that the M5ODR1 transmission in 88 and up (five speed) can handle the turbo hp with little or no problems...

You might want to take tomw's advice and spend some money building one of the Turbo Coupe (88 or 87) transmissions if you really want to sink money into something that was meant to handle the power...

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about just t5 swapping it. The rear end will hold fine won't it? 7.5 inch open diff with 3.45 ratio.

It'll hold up if you're just pushing stockish 2.3t power (~200hp) and don't beat the crap out of it every time you drive. I still have the original open 4.10 7.5 in my 4x4 with 31s on it doing just fine. That said I have a disc explorer 8.8 4.10 rear waiting on the side line ready to go in if the 7.5 decides to kick the bucket....
