So I'll throw it out there. 94 4.0 ranger. Want to do a tune up. (140k on it,no history) Rear plug P/s side. looking at it theres no room to get a ratchet on the socket. Seem to be a > blank< any one thoughts on getting plug out and new one back in??

Oh yea- the truck has A/c, this what keeping it " no room" A/c box in the way. I've got one idea. Want to read if anyone got 1 better.

Thanks!

Mike

I was able to get at it with a socket by kneeling on top of the engine, alternatively if you still dont have enough room you could jack the passanger side up so the wheel hangs down and go in through the wheel well. There should be plenty of room then.

theres an opening om the plastic fender well on the passenger side. An extension and possibly a u-joint will get that bad larry out.

plan on taking your tire off and spending atleast 30 minutes getting it out and the new one back in. and get a swivel ratchet. without it you wont get it out.

Maybe, maybe not. I didn't pull a tire, and I'm sure it didn't take me 30 minutes.

Changed mine a few times. Once just a few months back. 94, 4.0l with AC. Tight and nothing special for tools, can be done without removing tire or going in through fender...

Same here on my 93 w/AC. I broke the plug loose then used a short extention w/o the handle (a make-shift nut driver) to unscrew the plug. Took just a few minutes to remove. Going back in was just about as easy.

The size of your hands could make a difference.

Again thanks for the info. Hands are bit big,not was limber from days of young.
But after getting these words of encouragement, feeling better! This was the only problem I could see.

Get form/site. always enjoy reading it!
