i have an 86 ranger extended cab 2wd 2.9L

replaced my shocks the other day and noticed the inside edge of both my front tires was worn down smooth to the point of starting to show the steel belting in spots. the old shocks were completely worn out. i could move them in and out easily with my hands. the tires werent really scalloped like most would be with bad shocks they were just completely smooth on the inner edges like my camber was way negative. my question is could my shocks being worn out cause the ttb suspension to ride too low and increase negative camber? or should i be checking something else and taking it to get aligned. just got new tires too so dont want the same thing to happen to them.

Shocks don't effect ride height. Springs do. What you are experiencing is a common problem with this style suspension. The coil springs start sagging and you get negative camber which in turn wears out the inner edges of the tire. The only two fixes are to get new springs or get an alignment. So if I were you and had brand new tires, I'd get an alignment. Easiest way to keep your tires from going bald.

ok so i went and got an alignment and here are my before and after measurements.
Before
Left Front Right Front
Camber -0.7 -1.2
Caster 3.4 3.8
Toe -0.11(in the red) 0.18(in the red)

After
Camber -0.7 -1.1
Caster 3.4 3.8
Toe 0.03 0.05

i guess it was the shocks and toe out of align that killed my tires. tires just didnt look feathered or scalloped so i was a thrown off a bit i guess.

keep a good eye on the tires....watch for the slightest wear...

FYI......

I owned a truck once...it would wear out the tires when aligned to factory specs--

I brought it to an "old School" alignment shop...they aligned it by sight $55...(eyeballed the rims vertically on the machine)...they tweeked it a week later for free on the machine...

never had any tire wear problems after that!!!
