Basically what your gaining with the 44 is better wheel bearing placement(less heat build up), and better hubs. I still have the D35 in my 347 Ranger with 4:56's and 35" BOGGERs(I have the 35 in my Explorer as well with 35" BFG KM2 and 4:88's). As far as a the straight axle swap unless your gonna wheel the heck out of it you may want to consider the JEEP(I know Im gonna get flamed here)D30. It will be the same width and have the same bolt pattern for your wheels(wont have to change the rear out). As has been said you will never get the money out of your truck that you have put in it(i have around 10k in mine and I have done ALL the work myself). It will be yours though. Back to your TTB dilemma though, some longer Radius arms, new bushings and U-joints will go a long way(dont scrimp on the steering linkage either). just a few extra ideas that came to my mind when reading your post. Keep us up to date and good luck."BTW a better D35 would help with the money part of it, with good u-joints they are comparable in strength to a stock D44. "
Do you have any recommendations? So far I haven't been very happy with this TTB.
