Well lets see...
The round part in the middle that actually holds the wheel (brake rotor/wheel hub) that is bolted to the other part of the suspension with 5 nuts/studs is called the "Spindle".
The part that the Spindle is bolted onto is called the "Knuckle" (this allows the vehicle to be steered).
The shaft with the teeth or "Splines" that goes through the middle of the Spindle is the "Axle Shaft" (more specifically, the Stub Axle, Outer Axle Shaft, or (sometimes) Outer Drive Shaft). The Stub Axle is connected to the "Inner Axle Shaft" via a universal joint.
