Trying to find an old car magazine

I remember an article back in the late 80's to mid 90's about a comparison between a Ranger and an Escort as your first new car. (I believe it was an issue of Car and Driver) Unfortunately I can't find it. I googled it and went through each magazine I could find in Jim's Mega Magazine website. Does anyone else remember this article and if so, do you remember what magazine, month and year it was in so I can get a copy?

I finally got around to checking the old RPC (Ranger Porn Collection) on this.

I think this is the article you're looking for; Car & Driver, September 1991. Not exactly as a "first new car", but it is an article comparing having a Ranger (and other small trucks) as opposed to an Escort. It was the only article like this, in C&D, from '83 through '94, although I may be missing some of '92-ish issues.
