I am wanting to come up with a box that will go between my two seats and then "T" out behind the seats for my 12". Actually the box will sort of look like a "T". Want to try a different way of running my sub and want to try my hand at a fiberglass, bondo box. Any suggestions? Anyone ever make a box like this before and if so any photos would be helpful. Thanks.

I would make the frame out of MDF.....maybe just do the top bafle outta fiberglass.

So purdy much just make the box like I would any other box..maybe leaving the top open and then glassing the rest of it? Im sorry if i sound ignorant but I am when it comes to this. I found a guy that wants to build me a custom fiberglass box for 100$. That seem like a good deal?

take a look at his work, if you like it, you trust him, and you have the disposable income, i'd definitely take him up on the offer. will he paint it too?

chances are the quality will suck....$100 would barely cover expenses might not even cover them to be honest. Fiberglass isnt cheap.

Make the bottom and all sides out of MDF. get the cutout for your subs and make rings out of mdf (about an inch and a half wide). Use dowel rods and hot glue to stabilize the rings on the box. Use some kind of fabric (i use jersey knit sheets) to stretch around and cover the open part of the box (it is important to use ONE piece of fabric, using multiple pieces will just cause problems). You can use hot glue or staples to secure the fabric to the wood. Now cover the fabric with fiberglass resin......you can get resin at AutoZone (i get mine at Pepboys) or you can order it offline from US Composites. You will need at least a gallon probably 2 tho. after this resin cures start applying layer of fiberglass chop matt and resin. For a subwoofer box you will need the fiberglass to be 6-8 layers thick. depending on what subs they are and how many you may have to do more or can get away with less.

hope this helps.....if you ahve anymore questions or concerns feel free to PM me.

Thanks alot. And ya, before telling the guy to build it, i went to my local sterio shop and was talking to one the builders there and they told me the same thing about material cost's and to be watchful for crap quality. I never met the dude before, just browsing craigslist and found him on there so I asked. As my system sits now, it kicks the rangers arse purdy darn good but I need leg room. Thanks for all the info tylork, Im going to measure stuff up and do my math to see wether or not to build the "T" style or just a funky wedge to span the hole back of the truck but mold it around everything and inset the sub.

If i was in your shoes i would just make a custom center console and put 2 8s of a nice single 10 in it. You would probably be happy with just one Sundown Audio SA-8. The "T" design is gonna be a B*tch to get in and out

I figured it would suck getting it in, but I am planning to leave it in place if I build it. I have ran a single 8, single 10 and now have stuck with my audiobahn 12 for almost a year now. I liked the way the 8 sounded but its hard to look back after having that 12 slap my back for awhile. If I change speaker configuration, I will be running the same sort of box I have now but expand it all the way to the other side of the cab and in-set two ma audio 8's. I know they aint the best or most expensive or whatever, but I have ran them and I like them. But aint sure yet on what Im going to do.

Look like purdy meaty 8's. I'll definetly look into them if i decide to change. I got to buy new 8's anyways since I blew a coil out of one of my ma 8's. I think i got a vid of one playing in my truck in the "sub woofers, lets see what you got" forum.
