Trucks running hot

Hook up a mechanical gauge to see the real temperature. The stock gauge can be very misleading.

umm heres my i got a stupid question part... how?
off to work now i will check back with you guys at 8pm.

update time. on the way to work it took a few miles to just get the needle to the norm range then it slowly climbed up to 3/4 of the way from the top then dropped down to about 1/2 way from top then slowly climbed up to the very top and slightly over the range.
on the way home it took a mile or two to get to the norm range then climbed up to 3/4 again but then dropped to about a 1/4 way up then resumed going up slowly but never broke the norm range.
also need a new gasket being i musta sucked cutting the "make your own" gasket sheet to fit. Doh! im going to go shopping an see what i can get for a temp gauge!

update new temp gauge is in thus far it on short trips runs under 190. will update after a longer trip.

out of curiosity, which gasket did you make?

it was the upper rad house housing where the temp sensor goes. heres a pic of my new set up just because i can.

now i just am going to set up the other 2 gauges(oil press. an ammeter)

im stuck on the setup of the oil press. though not sure how to convert it from the stock sender that goes to the electic stock gauge to the new system with the hose that goes to the back of the gauge.

The oil pressure gauge is easy to set up...you just remove the stock sending unit from the engine, and screw in the hose and fitting into the hole it was in. The new gauge should have come with the right fittings to do this.

ohhh its that simple......:icon_twisted:

its just a pain to get at. what would you suggest to protect the plastic line?

I didn't put anything over mine...just zip tie it away from hot things and things it will rub on, and put a rubber grommet in the hole where it goes through the firewall.

sounds good il do it while i do the oil change. it should be long enough id think. hmm i think i also have some wire looming around to cover rub points. also could i for the lighting run all three gauges wires into one wire for the hot an ground then them 2 wires into one of the stock gauges wires? or would that be too much current?

That's how I wired my lights, actually into the dash lights. I'm not sure if that's right or wrong but it seems to be working.

Cool! when i get time to sit down an rip into it il let you know how it goes.
