Truck wont accerlate passed 25 mph

I have a 1990 2.9L V6 ford ranger 4x4 with roughly 115k miles (all original). Today I let my husband take it to work and he brings it home that afternoon and it won't accelerate passed 25 mph. I can work it through all the gears (though it feels like granny gears in 1 and 2) but it revs really high if I attempt to accelerate beyond 25mph. 4000 rpm. It's a manual and it shifts fine into reverse, also picks up neutral fine. Sunday we also went to drive it and 2 caps coming off the fuel injector to the brake booster just shot off, which has NEVER happened. I'm not sure if the 2 are related but any suggestions would be awesome. He leaves in a couple days so I'm going to have to figure this out on my own and try to repair it! Thanks in Advance

sounds like the t/case is in low ratio.

That's what it sounds like to me too. Go check the transfer case shifter.

Also,

2 caps coming off the fuel injector to the brake booster just shot off

makes no sense at all.

I think you are looking at the vacuum tree and calling it a fuel injector.

Makes sense, just wasnt sure what they were called. it's a piece coming off of the fuel injection, not the actual injector itself.Thanks guys, I'll look at this, I was thinking the cat converter might be clogged but I'll look at the transfer case!

If you are blowing the vacuum caps off the intake the cat might be clogged. But you won't make 4000 RPM in gear if it is.

Started it today, and NOW the light shows up blinking for low range!!! Didn't the other day but apparently it's stuck in low .
