Truck wont accelerate past 3000 rpm

One full spot off, no, but yes it can start and run being a little off , but there would be no power.

No one uses timing lights any more, glad I kept mine :)
You can often find them at garage sales, $1-$5

Wonder if it could be a bad TPS causing a fall out of fuel.. Or flooding. Is there a heavy gas smell when you restart

-gil-

Could too much oil be the cause of this?

Too much oil causes cavitation, the process of churning oil and air by the crank (like in a blender).

Put 5 quarts into your motor, not more. The whipped oil, in short, accelerates wear of your engine. So yes, it's a bad thing.

Regarding your idle / truck dying at stop lights, take off your Idle Air Control Valve (2 bolts near your throttle body), and spray it clean with brake cleaner. This COULD help the idle. Takes 5.3 minutes to complete.

A bad bearing would not cause it to not start though. A bad bearing on an alternator pulley would cause poor charging of the battery / electrical delivery.

Have you been having dead batteries / jump starts?

RonD, do you think the coil wires could be bad too, aside from the distributor? With a MM, the OP could check the ohm load.

The clicking sound could be a dead battery or a false starter relay or starter solenoid. We need more info.

Problems fixed now, replaced the fuel pump again. The one i had lasted 3 weeks. Before replacing the fuel pump i replaced the coil and plug wires too because on of the wires found the headers and burned a hole in itself.

Oh and there was a bit of sand down in the bottom of the tank and some water in the gas from the crack filler neck. We put some duct tape around the crack, cleaned the tank, and wasted about 5 gallons of gas.

Duct tape will lose it's grip when gas hits the adhesive.

Since you know what is causing the problem, might as well fix it.

I used RTV sealant on the filler necks of both Rangers. Both has worked well and no problems.

So it was the fuel pump? Nice. Good job getting the sand/crud/sediment out of your tank.
