I searched this on here with no luck, so now I'm turning to you guys for a bit of help! I don't even know where to begin looking to figure out this problem. I turn the key off and sometimes the truck will continue to shudder and shake, and also run, with the key in the "off" position. It's a carbed 88 2.3. Any help that can be given or insight as to what this may be, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

its called desieling and thats about my current know how of it.

First off, run some sea-foam through the intake manifold vacuum line. Its most likely dieseling because carbon built up on the cylinder head and piston have increased the compression to the point that the spark plug isn't igniting the fuel, because the heat created from the cylinder pressure is. Running higher octane fuel should provide a temporary fix until you can get that carbon cleaned out.

Thanks, I'll try that. Although I don't have much experience with carbed engines... :annoyed:
Where is the intake manifold vacuum line on the 2.3?

Some people use the brake booster vaccum line. I had a car that did the same thing but didnt care, got rid of it a few months later, and ya it to was a carbed engine.

No brake booster either... Just plain ol' awesome brakes.
But by the sounds of things, this is the least of my worries now. Truck just quit today, tested it and no spark. Hopefully it's just the coil.

sounds like its time to do a timing belt on it. it may have jumped time.

no worries, a blet isnt too bad to do on these and its a non interference motor, meaning the piston will not hit the valves if the belt breaks.
