Truck running hot unless I run the heater fan on full

Go do a full shampoo of your engine, and see if the smell goes away!

Car wash or pressure wash that engine bay.
I wet it down, spray cleaner all over, brush the built up stuff away and let loose with the spray nozzle. Should help with the smell.
