I am having a prob with my ranger in first and second not really in third, its falling on its face, its acting dumb lagging in and out threw the gears. Any way i ran a code test and code 21 was tripped and that was the coolent temp so i fixed that and it seamed like it helped when it was warm but its just so hit and miss. Here are some things i have just done to the truck, pluggs, wires, cap, rotor, coolent temp, any thing that has water threw it throttle body clean, oil air filter, t-case, fuel filter, fuel pump, egr.

Any help is good help thanx

HAve you rechecked for codes??

and which fuel pump did you replace?? frame rail pump?? or in tank??

Look over the battery cables very closly (+ &-) and double check all grounds

I have rechecked codes and got nothing. with the fuel pump i pulled the bed off and drained the tank and the fuel pump looked great and it got replaced when i got it a year and an have ago i will check the battery.

today it was even acting dumb at idle and its stumbaling cold and when its hot with a load on it but it is a little worse when cold.

checked the TPS and it was fine... what is the IAC? My dad said there was no vacuum leaks. This is killing me one min... its doing it the next its not. My old man thinks it might b a fuel pressure prob or distribuder.....

SO you only replaced the IN-tank fuel pump (FP).....there should be also a frame rail pump...DS, near/around the tranny.

A quick way to check the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR), is to pull the little vacuum line off the FPR itself ,& if fuel dribbles out, it, the FPR , is done ....getting Fuel pressure readings is a better way.

The IAC is Idle Air Control valve...located on the passanger side of the upper intake. If this getts too gummed up with carbon and the plunger rod can't move it affects the idle....Ussually...removing it and giving it a good healthy cleaning with some carbon cleaner/spray will improve things, more than 1 cleaning maybe in order.

couldn't hurt to remove the TFI and have it checked..as well as the O2 sensor

what is the TFI AND WILL THAT TRIP A CODE?

TFI= thick film igniton module....or aka ignition module...located on the back side of the distributor.

yes they can throw a code....loss of tack signal....er something like that.

the main symtoms are runs good when cold but after it warms up it will die and not restart after it is cooled off....somewhere around 30-60min.

they control a fair bit of stuff...so other symtoms can edge in. Most auto stores check them for free....but insist that they check it at least 3x's. they are get affected by heat more than anything.
