I have a couple of issues and don't know where to begin. First off I have a 94 with a 2.3L.
When I reach certain speeds the truck bucks like crazy, anyone else experience this and were you able to fix it?

Next when it's cold I have to give it gas to start it and let it warm up for quite a while. I have a brand new fuel pump so I know that's not the problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

that has happened to me once. i was cruising along in 3rd gear at about 30-35mph and it started to jerk like that. i don't know what caused it and it hasn't done it since so idk. sometimes too, i get this trailer hitching effect where it feels like somethings tugging on the back of the truck repeatedly. that's only at higher speeds though and doesn't happen all the time, more of a once in a great while thing.

probably didn't help at all, but just thought i'd relate. i'm sure someone will come along with a suggestion for you soon. if i were to guess i'd say fuel injector, but that's not really a high failure item.

did both of these problems start happening at the same time if so it could be an ignition problem. check all of the plugs and wire to make sure they're ok. did you change the strainer with the new fuel pump. i know that may be a dumb question i'm just trying to help you do some troubleshooting.

I have this same problem from time to time. Still haven't figured it out yet, but I know it's something to do with spark. Sometimes it'll just die for a minute too. If I ever figure it out i'll let you know.

These problems were there when I bought it. The guy told me all it needed was a fueld pump. Well I replaced the entire assembly and it is still there.

I have the same problem but mine will turn on the Check Engine light.
Does anybody else's come on?
I was under the impression that it had something to do with the EGR system (per the codes it was giving me), but I have replaced everything in that system and it still does it. I know new parts don't always mean good parts but I would like to think they are good.
I have a newly rebuilt engine (within 4000 miles) with all new parts and it has acted like this since I got it all back together.
I hope if anybody can help please do.
This really kills my fuel mileage and it has me stumped.

Have you ever tried cleaning your Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)?

In doing a search for "bucking," one of the threads mentioned cleaning the MAF solved the problem.

Just a guess, and a cheap corrective attempt, before you start throwing parts at it. No guarantees, but was mentioned relative to "bucking" in past threads.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Yeah, the MAF and/or MAP sensor caused my Tempo to buck, idle wildly, and sometimes just run like crap...it was the MAP on mine...not even sure if Rangers had a MAP...but the FI models usually have a MAF...and that is the one on the end of the intake tube...IIRC...

Maf

Check and /or clean your MAF sensor.....

Mine did that before under load while climbing certain grades. It ended up being as simple as spark plugs and wires.

i wonder if these shitty bosch plugs are my problem... i wish changing them wasn't such a PITA. would yours ever just completely cut out on you HWman?

No, it would'nt cut out on me but it would buck/misfire badly under load. It actually had me thinking fuel, spark, egr, etc. for a while. I just decided to do a tune up and it ran excellent after that.

You never know though.

ya, i'm thinking it's my ICM but im just waiting till it completely quits, then i'll know for sure :) itermitent problems are a pain in my ass.
