Hi everyone,

I have a 1998 mazda b2200 manual transmission and I am having issues with the truck sputtering when i put it in gear. The truck seems to idle fine with no problems but if i put it in gear the truck dies. It also does back fire after sputtering for a long period of time. It so bad that the pedal is all the way down but the truck just sputters and quits.

I have replaced the fuel filter. It has recently had its plugs and roter button replace along with spark plugs. It ran good for about 10000 miles then this.

If it helps any it did have a problem when stopping it would stall out that problem seemed to work it self out without me doing this. I would say 300 miles after that quit the new problem started.

Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks for any help.

A similar thing happened to me. Granted I have a 4.0 but one of my spark plugs was dead so I lost a cylinder double check them and make sure you dont have any wires crossed.

the mazda ended production of the b 2200 in 1992, so how could you possibly have a 98 b2200? i hope you meant b2500

Rose, if you wanted to be exact 2500 was in the same era of the 2200. After 92 they were b2300 for 2.3 L inline 4. If i were id check the fuel filter like you did, And get injector cleaner additive.

fyi, the 2200 and 2500 were not in the same era. you're probably thinking of the 2600 and if he really has a b2200 he shouldnt be posting on this forum. this section deals with mazda rbv's only, not actual mazda pickups

Point of this is there is no Mazda b2500, I meant 2600. 93 and up are b2300. Don't believe me? Look it up

well no matter what kind of manual truck it is the problem would be the same. I would start by looking at the clutch. If the clutch is hitting the fly wheel funny then that can drive the engine crazy.
