truck barely moves

Hey my truck will barely move when I put my foot on the throttle. I have to get my truck up to around 4000 rpm to even get it to move an inch. Im thinking its the torque converter. but some people I know have told me to check the piston return springs and even the muffler bearings. One I have never heard of these and 2 how do you check them?

There are no such things. Check fluid level in trans.

Yes, the piston return springs and muffler bearings were only used on the previous model year, no matter what year you have, lol.

Yes, I would check and "smell" the automatic transmission fluid.
Failed torque converter would be a good guess but could be transmission issue.

ok well i checked the levels and they are perfect and the fluid looks just like it should

The trans is not engaging. From what you describe I would guess that the fluid pump is out. There are a few ways to check that. The easiest is by fluid level. Check the fluid with the engine off and then again with the engine running at idle, the fluid should drop on the dipstick.

The other, slightly better way, is to remove the line pressure test plug and start the engine, if the pump is working fluid will go everywhere.

it seems to be engaging since it moves unless you are saying that its not engaging until I make the engine rev at a high level? if the pump is the problem how hard are they to fix?

I'm saying that the pump is not producing enough pressure to keep things engaged. An auto trans requires fluid pressure to keep the clutches under pressure.

If you have to rev it really high that means you have to get the pump spinning really fast to get the fluid pressure you need.

The pump is bolted to the front of the trans, right behind the converter. Tranny will have to come out, but that is the worst part of the repair.
