TRS Chat Room

What do you guys think of adding a TRS chat room? On a few other forums im on for other hobby's, one thing that seemed to be cool was having a chat room along with the posting. I think with as much traffic as this site gets it might be a cool idea to add a chat room here to further expand the site and help people out. What do you think?

Chat rooms are cool and nice to use, but I think the reason there isn't one, is because the privalage got abused in the past. Alot of people would not treat it as they would the forum, and I bet it got out of hand, and Jim probably didn't like that and got rid of it.

I would be all for another one though. I think the chat rooms are good way to pass time, and talk with other members. I find that most of the conversations in chat rooms I look at for my other hobbies tend to not be related to what the site is about, but instead os more like a real conversatoin. There is no topic.

I would like to see one here, but I brought this up awhile back and iirc Jim said they tried it once and it caused some problems, so I let it go. would be cool but isn't truely needed.

i wonder if it would be beneficial to have some restrictions on who can use the chat room. like a user must have X amount of posts to join in. or maybe make a simple rule abou abuse, and if they break it there account is banned from the chat room. ?

I say yes. I'd like a chat room.

However I think guidelines must be established and a Moderator (or two, or three) to enforce the guidelines would be needed. If the guidelines were established ahead of time, this could be beneficial and indeed something everyone could enjoy.

Ahh ok didnt know this was brought up before. I think with the right planning it could work out. But who knows.

The last time we had a chat there were a few problems. One, you had to click a link to get to it, so now one was ever there. We used to have a chat every Wednesday night and a handfull of people would show up.

Secondly, and most importantly, it was a big gaping door for trojans, and viruses.

We had gotten rid of it for security reasons. We had a virus stuck on the site that came in through a chat somehow.

If I really thought people wanted it bad enough I would add one. Setting it on a seperate server would be better.

I always thought it was more a privilage abuse kind of thing. People swearing too much, or that kind of thing.

I would love to have a chat room, it'd be cool. I think it would add alot to the forum. That's just my opinion though.

Is there any way to get mods in the chat room like on the forums here? Im not sure how it all works but I always thought it was a cool feature so site. Id hate to just start up a chat room and people just out of control swearing, and spamming and such. Would you be able to make it only registered people only to join? It would just suck to put a lot of effort into this and then just have a few people ruin it.

I know on a couple other forums that have a chat that I look at, they require you to have "X" amount of posts. One forum it is 25 and the other is 50. Seems to work really well.

Or for TRS's case, you could have a minimum "Rep Power" requirement. That way, they person has to actually contribute to the forum before they can go in. Just a thought.

I don't know the rep power would nessecarily be a good requirement, as there are several people here that have a decent number of posts (aka contribution) but little rep.

I think a post count, being 30 or higher, would be sufficient.

you couldn't swear in the chat room........ you couldn't even type the word cummins.
