Tried installing these kenwood 6x8 speakers in the rear speaker locations but it seems the sheetmetal is shaped in a way that it won't allow the magnet to sit within the opening. Anyone else run into this issue? Is my truck missing a mount of some kind between the sheetmetal and the speaker?

Sorry no pics, I drilled holes in the plastic grill and mounted them to that for now, which sucks of course.

I think I'll get out the cutting wheel and simply cut back the sheetmetal to make room... its just odd, the hole is a sideways-teardrop shape and its the smaller side that is interfering with the new speaker's magnet and preventing it from mounting flush. If I just widen that side a bit then I think it will fit tight to the sheetmetal like it should.... again, just thought it odd nobody else encountered this before.

Ahah! Found this pic of another member, I am totally missing that bracket that mounts the speaker to the sheetmetal:

yeah thats the piece i figured you were missing... just go to a junk yard and pull em out another ranger instead of cuttn apart your truck lol

aren't those brackets for 5x7s?

Sweet, found some at a junkyard. $10. Too pricey but it was after closing time so I just gave them the dang cash and left, but at least my speakers wont sound so s****y anymore

aren't those brackets for 5x7s?

They are, and all the 6x8's I've seen have tabs for mounting in either 6x8 or 5x7. So they mounted up just fine.

Seriously 5x7s and 6x8s are the same

Really no company lists the speakers different. They list them as the same size

your right, they dont list em diffrently at all. i they all say 6x8 or will fit 5x7 too or 6x8/5x7 speakers.

glad you found em bud.

crutchfield is one of the ONLY companies that says they are different speaker sizes.

thats because you would confuse the crap out of somebody by saying a 5x7 IS a 6x8

but if you notice. just about all speakers will say 6x8 (fits 5x7 openings)\\or they list em as 5x7/6x8

sonicelectronix lists em in a different catagory, but there all them same speakers.

im obviously not saying your wrong by any means, nor am i bashing you. just bringing a little insight to the newbs. :icon_thumby:
