Transmission
Manual
i have a 91 ranger, with 4sp overdrive. i am wanting to change over to an automatic. What tranny will will fit the 2.3liter. I have been to the c-3 which is just a 3 spd. i am really wanting one with the overdrive. the A4LD is one i can use right or is it electronic. Some one please help me. thank you:icon_idea:

A4LD is the automatic for your application.

If you have a manual trans you will need to change the comp. for one from an automatic truck. take the trans harness also as it is different. the a4ld uses an electric selenoid to perforrm the shift into O/D if memory serves. it is not an electronic trans tho'.

i thought this could be done w/o changing the computer by adding a switch to control the 12v solinoid, this also gives more control of when it hits OD... keeping it from going in and out of OD needlessly.

if you tow with it that's a great idea!
I was always told that you could go auto. to man. using the stock comp, but going the other way you have to change it. I really can't say you "HAVE" to.

ok so i have to get the comp from an automatic truck/or run a switch for the 12v solenoid. Ok thank you :yahoo:

I know i need a torque converter for this trany but do i have to change the fly wheel. i know i need trans cooler and lines. thank you olranger:icon_confused:

yes you have to change it. take the one from the truck you get the trans from. and the bolts as they may be a different length. you should also take the florr panel/shifter assembly and the linkage, kick down rod/cable and anything else your truck doesn't have.
