ok, so i just replaced the felxplate on my 1990 ranger 2.9 v6 4x4 automatic. put everything back together, and now when i accelerate it has no power but once it gets going it starts catching up, then when it shifts into 4th it bogs down a lil bit, and it wont shift into overdrive, does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong with it?

does it need alot of gas to get going? if so sounds like the converter is locked.

which converter? once it does get moving it gets up and goes, but it has no power from a stop

torque converter. It is not suppose to lock up until higher gear.

Checked the kickdown cable/rod? Those need to be adjusted when swapping transmissions.

Next guess would be a forgotten vacuum hose of some sort like one for a vacuum modulator on the trans floating around the engine bay unplugged.

4th IS overdrive, so I don't know what you mean it won't go into OD.
Could also be the selector cable out of adjustment.

It should be hard to turn if it's bolted to the flex plate. Even if it isn't bolted to the flex plate, it's still engaged in the pilot hole on the crankshaft. The pilot is machined to a very tight tolerance to keep the converter centered on the crankshaft.

The higher RPM is because your converter lock up isn't working for some reason.

What did you remove to get access to the flex plate to replace it, transmission or engine?

True but if there is a problem and it stays locked all the time, it will cause problems when starting off.
It would stall the engine when stopping if it stayed locked. Common problem on late 80s and early 90s GMs.
