I'm noticing a high pitched whine(howl), at low speeds from my 5r55w transmission in my 04 Ranger. I usually hear it when accelerating from a stop through almost all gears. It doesn't get louder but it doesn't disappear either. I've done a web search and don't find any particular recall, tsb, or other mention. Any ideas?

check your fluid level while running and make sure its fine, sometimes its just the simple things. my a4ld did that when the fluid was low, and a 5r55e is a next gen a4ld, maybe thats the cause.

Thanks. I just changed the fluid and filter so I know it's not related to that. But, it whined before and now after the fluid change.

I'm gonna guess that's just the sound it makes.

Or maybe it'll blow up and come flying out from under your car one day at highway speeds.

Watch out now.

very funny, but just make sure you check the fluid while its running, if you do it b4 running the engine the tranny fluid will look too high. if it looks about right b4 cranking it then its prob too low, crank the engine and check it while idling, the fluid actually levels down where it should be. if its right then try this: lucas transmission fix, read the bottle and go from there. whining however is generally cavitation caused from air in the system=low fluid level.

My 08 has a low speed whine to it. Very faint, 1st and 2nd gear. Just the nature of the beast. Is quite otherwise.

Do you hear the noise with OD canceled ??

Thanks guys. Checked the fluid this morning and everything looks fine. Yes, it's just in first and second as far as I can tell. Hopefully, it's just normal sounds. Like I said before, it's not getting worse so that's a good sign. Thanks again for your help.
