I have a 2000 ranger 3.0 2wd automatic transmission. I had the transmission rebuilt in July 2018. I have driven it around 20k miles and the OD light started blinking about a week ago and it feels like it does not want to gear down to first gear after stopping. It also has a shutter when I tried to drive it in #1. The next day i Drove it back to the mechanic who rebuilt transmission... he said he replaced a solenoid but it did not help.. im trying to see if anyone on this thread may have an answer for this issue?

If the OD light is blinking that means there is a error code. Get the code first.

The mechanic has not mentioned if he was able to pull any codes. Evidently the o/d blinking light is happening intermittently.. l was hoping that he could pull codes.

Even if its intermittent it should still have a pending code stored. Something obviously wasn't replaced that should have been replaced with the rebuild which isn't uncommon. Most rebuilds just do soft parts (gaskets, clutch discs and bands) when a true rebuild should include a new pump, sprags, solenoids, valve body rebuild etc.

Your probably correct l got an itemized receipt for the rebuild. I will check it to see what he did as his “complete rebuild “ .

I see a valve body kit on the receipt. I dont see solenoids, pump or sprags.

What is the recommended transmission fluid for this type of transmission?

Thanks. Mechanic said one servo had a rip in the rubber part of it. Also a band was burned up.. he replaced those parts and some seals.. seems to be doing great.

Find a new mechanic... those parts should have been replaced with the rebuild and no reason they should fail at 20k miles.

Yeah.. I hope this is my first and last transmission rebuild.
