i bought my truck in oct and drove 1800 miles to tx. on the drive there i noticed i could not go above 80ish mph without my mph needle going crazy and floating up and down. the faster i would go the more movement the needle would do sometimes it would go down to zero and stay there.

also i can not set my cruse control past 75 without the gas peddle having movement in it as well like i was hitting the gas but i was not.

what do?

i have a 2000 ranger xlt 3.0 engine. im not sure of the transmission. but it is automatic 2wd

A lot of speedo problems with this era of Rangers is caused by the VSS sensor on top of the rear axle pumpkin. A 10mm bolt holds it in, but you have to overcome o-ring pressure and crud holding it in. Clean it up before you pull the old one out, keep junk out of the gear lube. It's a cheap part. Look up part number DY1123 on Rockauto.com.

I sent you schematics.
