Transmission problem I think

I have this transmission problem I think, runs the same hot or cool. If it has a load or foot is off gas costing nothing happens. With not much load just to keep speed @ 35-55mph it shutters that is the best I can describe it. The truck will shake back and forth front to rear, I have checked the fluid level and is good red not burnt. 1998 4X4 4.0 Auto Trans 120,000 on truck.:bawling:

i think what he means is like. when he's coasting the truck doesn't do shake or make the noise.

When he barely presses the gas just to keep speed steady it makes the noise.
 
It could actually be an engine miss. Under a load or when the "foot is off gas" the torque converter is not locked. When your engine is under a light load, like at cruise, the torque converter is locked. A locked converter will transmit engine misses through the entire drivetrain. An unlocked converter will absorb a substantial miss.
Watch your tach. If the RPMs drop slightly (torque converter locking up) as the shutter starts, it would be another indicator that an engine miss could be the cause.
Just something to consider.

If that year has EGR, disconnect the vacuum line going to the EGR valve and drive it.

If the stutter is gone, I suspect a bad DPFE.

Sounds like torque converter shudder to me. Does it change if you hit the overdrive cancel button?
 
I had the same problem with my truck it would shake badly when i accelerated and i got on here to see if anyone else had it cause last night on the way to work my truck broke down first a loud bang then it wouldn't accelerate and it had a knocking and feel to it that made me think that the driveshaft popped off and was banging around the bottom of the truck when i got it stopped it wasn't making noise, the driveshaft was still in place and when i put it in gear and pushed the accelerator the speedometer would rise but the truck wouldn't moved never had this happen before thinking the tranny blew or the rear end ganna bring it home and take the pumpkin cover off first if not that i'm assuming its the tranny unless someone here has had this happen before and knows thanks for any input
