Ok so a few weeks ago i ordered a rebuilt trans for my 88 bronco2 with the a4ld. Got the trans a few days ago put it in bolted it up to the motor and the shift linkage doesn't line up. On my old trans the linkage coming out of the trans pointed upward and had a hole in it that my linkage clipped into. On the rebuilt trans the linkage piece points downward and instead of having a hole it has a nub sticking off with a ball on the end. I tried taking the piece off my old trans but you gotta take alog of it apart and i cant figure out how it comes out. So my question is does anyone know what year that trans came out of? Is it possible to get the linkage for that year and hook it up? Im going to call the guy later today so well see what they say. I just want to know if i can just get the linkage from a different truck

Thanks

Ok called the guy he says i have to take the linkage piece off the old trans and put it in the other one so....... I have the pan off and the valve body off but i still cant figure out how the old one comes off?? its loose and disconnected from everything i just need to know how to get it out any help is greatly greatly appreciated I may be able to post pics later if no understands what im talking about

Thanks

looking up at the auto trans oil pan rail you'll see that the gasket surface isn't
"solid" but is instead "slotted".

Hiding inside one of those slots is a solid pin that retains the linkage piece in the transmission case.

On other ford tranmissions it's a roll pin that you can grab
with a pair of diagonal cutters. On an A4LD it's a solid pin
and it's driven flush with the bottom of one of the grooves.

Take a 1/8" drill bit and drill right next to the pin. Drill in about 1/4" or so. Then take a hammer and punch, knock the pin towards the hole you just drilled. You can then pull out the pin with some side cutters. Don't worry if the pin is "loose" when you put back together. Just take some grease to hold it in place. The pan gasket will then hold it in when the pan is installed.
