About 2.5 quarts will do. Use Mercon ATF.

Just curious, do you really use Automatic Transmission Fluid in a 5 Speed MANUAL transmission?

I believe the T-5 trannys have used ATF since '85'.Just curious, do you really use Automatic Transmission Fluid in a 5 Speed MANUAL transmission?

The T-5 came out in '83' but was the Non World Class. They went to the WC in '85' and made the switch from gear lube to the ATF.83 actually. That is when they came out in mid year for the GT's

Dave...read the very last paragraph of the link that you posted.
One last piece of important information. ALL World Class T-5 use ATF (Dextron III) oil and NOT heavy gear oil or Redline MTL! All NON-World Class T-5 use 50 wt gear oil. (The original Ford/Borg-Warner recommendation back in 1984 was Dextron II. As this is no longer available, we and TREMEC recommend the 50 wt gear oil.)
Where is says that the 84 MY trans should have 50 weight gear oil?
That kills me...every T-5 WC and Non-WC I ever rebuilt or taken apart always had ATF in them. Never once did I find 50 weight in them.
