Today I did 2 burnouts at stop signs. I didnt power brake, I just floored it and let off the clutch. The first time the gear shifter moved to the right but I didnt think anything about it because it felt like the front end of my truck came off the ground, which I dont think it did. At the second burnout, I noticed that the stick moved over to where it would be when I'm in 3rd gear, but I was in first. I didnt notice any weird noises and everything feel fine while I'm driving. I also noticed that once I'm off the clutch in first, when I floor it and let off to shift into second, the stick will move back to the left. So when I floor it in first it slowly moves to the right, and then back to the left when I shift. I havent noticed the problem in any other gears. While I'm letting off the clutch in first, I also noticed that the stick will move to the right. When the transmission is "flexing" the whole cab shakes. I also noticed that it only moves when there is a good bit of torque on the motor.

I know that spinning the tires wasnt the smartest, so I take responsibility for my actions.

might need a new transmission mount i didnt think to see if you had posted how many miles it had. i crawled under mine one day and it had vibrated one of the mounts nuts off lol granted mine was an auto but im betting its got something to do with it that or an engine mount

Your tranny and or motor mounts may be worn out, but when you floor it, your motor(which your tranny is bolted to) is trying really fawking hard to turn to the right, but is being held back by said mounts so... the tranny flex might have something to do with all the rotational force provided by the serious amount of torque the 2.3 makes when the throttle plate is open :icon_twisted:

170,000 miles. I looked and it doesnt seem like the transmission cross member has moved or anything. Do the mounts need to be replaced immediately?

its both engine and trans moving its normal when theres torq

Its never done this before so thats why I'm worried. Other than everything moving, I havent noticed any wierd noises or anything. The stick moves over a good 1-3 inches.

Are you able to do so while not applying such force to the motor/trans? If it moves around like that, back and forth while you are idling (parked), and in gear.. You might need new shifter bushings... If it only does it while in motion, I had that similar problem (i.e when you press the gas the shifter moves forward, then backward when you let off the throttle). My input shaft had excessive play. (AllanD can shed more light into this issue).

It only moves when there is torque. When there is torque, it moves to the right; when the torque is gone, it moves back to where it should be.

Have you tried taking the boot off the shifter, and driving around with it? See if the the entire trans is moving or just the shifter..

I'm pretty sure its the whole transmission because the cab shakes when it happens.

Lay under the truck while a friend rocks the motor back and forth and take a close look at the motor mounts. The transmission mount doesnt do a whole lot to restrict rotational force. Most of it is the engine mounts.

i agree with tim if its shaking the whole truck its the engine mounts might be time to check out whole underside for loose bolts. no telling what might have worked loose. mine worked all but one transfer case bolt out that could have been catastrophic lol

Today me and my dad jacked up the motor and found what was broke. Its the top stud. Is it gonna be hard to replace?
