I have a 4.0, Cab, 4x4 that I want to put a transmission cooler on. I don't know if they all work about the same or if some are better than others. If you have had good or bad look with any brand or type I would appreciate your opinion.
Thanks

^^ wow, really?

they are more or less the same, what you have to make sure is that your lines are large enough that you aren't restricting the flow of the atf, other than that, it's more or less surface area of the coils and fins...

lol... p/s coolers... what a waste of time!

if you don't have a trans cooler, the explorers often came with them, you can steal one off of one at a junk yard, and toss it in... they are on the passenger side, in front of the rad stock... your stock radiator has them built in also...

i assume you are driving an auto trans, right?

My bad YES it's a automatic the truck is a 92. I replace the tyranny last winner with a 94 trans and replaced the pump after a good cleaning and inspection. Everything seems good but it's going to be hot pulling a small trailer up the mountains and I just want the added cooling just to be on the safe side.

i'm gonna be pulling mine off this weekend when i do my m5od swap, you can have the damn thing lol. where are you from?

Unfortunately about 2500 miles due west in Washington state. I wish that I were a good enough wrench to put a 5 speed in mine.

i figured you were auto, just making sure... i know some people (like myself) who has thought about putting an oil cooler on the manual transmission... (long story as to why)

it can be done, but it's a lot of work...

Your's didnt come with one? I haven't looked at a ton of pre 98's up close but anything after 98 like my 99 that I've seen came with one already... its plumbed thru the radiator AND the cooler in front of the rad. I don't know if it was optional or standard though.

Mine dose have the factory cooler but it's not enough for pulling much of a load up and down the mountains. I was looking for something in addition or something more efficient

Well I have had the trans cooler on for several days now. I am very surprised by what I have found. My truck shifts better and even gets better MPG. Not a huge change but enough to notice right away. Well worth the cost !!!!!!!
