Transmission Choices for 408W

FYI.....Performance Automatic is no longer in business & the quality of their transmissions the last 4 years or more have been less than stellar.

Dynamic Racing Transmissions in Connecticut is very good......

It's probably the least expensive option.

The controller is where the time and expense will go, there is firmware available for the Microsquirts to run them. OR a US Shift controller.

If you plan on holeshots with slicks, the C6 would be longer-lasting.

speaking in ultimates...

yeah....you can build a c6 to 1600 hp....this is a calculated scale to a certain point in the drag race world. this is a total fact.

another fact...

you can bolt in a decent health STOCK 80 /k mile 6r80.... and with just tuning.... get it to live with 1000 hp blasts in the same scenario. nothing else in the ford line has that except for the 10 speed.

if you put a stock c6 behind a 6.7 scorpion it will die a miserable death with its stock 4 digit torque numbers, and geared to work with 1 to 1 3rd gear hiway speeds and towing what the scorpion was built to do...

even the godzilla would put an ass whoopin on the c6....

a built c6 wont handle a built scorpion. when you get to 2 k torque its a whole different deal....this is strictly speaking to capacities that are proven...no theory or opinion. this is just executed fact.

of course, these are choices and options...
if one chooses to live with a 3 speed and is going to build it, then the th400 is the first choice. just way better.

building...as in going with upgraded internals as you mentions with the c6 the th400 is the king....

but if your going to the trouble to better add hard parts and good shafts ect.... the 6r80 will exceed the build of the c6 1600 hp limitations.

the drivability of the 6r80 is insane with big power street cars for a bolt up solution on the back of a windsor.....the 8 hp is absolute tops there. but the 6r80 is not too far behind.

as curt 408 indicated there is a way to directly bolt the 6r80 to the windsor for nearly free.

this is not an argument or a debate, this is what is known from FAFO with other poor bastards money when pushing the limits.

2500 hp street cars are a thing. drivable 2500 hp cars. that is f#@$&%! insane.

1000 plus 4 digit hp daily drivable cars have been a thing for nearly 15 years now, and one thing none of them have for long is a c6. there is a reason for that.

that said. if i am tracking this correctly.....this is the case of a 408 windsor build in a street driven ranger with drag capacity sub 700 crank hp.

depending on availability, i certainly do agree the ford c6 is a great candidate for this build. just get a 3.08 rear gear and your good.

the c6 is around if you dig a bit. and as mentioned possibly the cheapest setup.

the c6 was built all the way to 96/98 in commercial applications. it was a great econo cab chaiisis/straight/box truck trans for low power and low speed applications....or a great street truck trans for sub 1000 hp applications.

big, dumb and reliable.

build around its limitations in regards to gearing and i would think you are golden.
