I put a C-6 in my 89 ranger behind a 302 tight fit. But i like it alot the only downside is if you do alot of higway driving you may want to go with somthing else.

I went C-4 but now that I have 1 ton axles to go under it I wished it was a 6 with a 205 case.

What does your axles have to do with what trans you are running? Your engine is hooked to your trans and it is the one dishing out the abuse to the trans. If you have big power then you should run the C6 but any 400hp or less302 and the C4 will work just fine. We have a Mustang that makes 840 blown HP at the crank and the C4 we run has held up just fine and my Mustang has a C4 that was built 18+ years ago and it still works great. :yahoo:

UMMM, got to differ with you here. Back in 1969 we bought a new 69 Ford Club wagon (full size van) that had a 302 backed by a heavy duty C-4 and an E330 chassis (Dana 60 rear with 3.73 gearing, single 16.5 wheels) In the ten years we owned it, that C-4 took a dump every two years.(5 rebuilds) If it had been equipped with a C-6, that would never had happened.

^^What he said,I dont think its going to like 37 inch tires, but I do hope it will hold up for a while.

A 69 Club Wagon is much heavier then a little Ranger and would be alot harder on the trans. I am not saying that a C4 will handle a ton of abuse that someone throws at it in a 4x4, But what does axles have to do with what trans you are running. Ok now that he has came up with a little more info like what tires he is running or going to. Still 37" tires on a little Ranger with a C4 is not a bad thing.

I am leaning towards the AOD for gas mileage. What do you think?
I have an AOD that I'm going to use behind my 460 when I get it swapped in, so it sounds like a good idea to me!

What difference? Everthing he listed weighs a lot more and as such raises the rotating mass and wear on the transmission (clutches). That was partly my point about the E330 drivetrain. Sure it may weigh a thousand or so pounds less, but the rotational mass will still be the same (actually more with a 4x4) as that E330

Dont get me wrong mike I hope your right, but I plan on beating on this pretty hard.

I also have a set of 44-18.50's to use on it as well.

c4-4x4 37 in tire.......bad idea.

locked front and rear....i will destroy it in front of you.

800 hp drag car that weighs 3400 with 28 in slicks is sissy shit compared to me getting retarded with 300 hp in a ext cab ranger with 35-38 in tires locked.

normal trail weight pushes 5 k. current trail weight is 7 k.

c4 is for low power 4x4 with sane tires or 2wd.

This is what COPPERHEAD said:

"I went C-4 but now that I have 1 ton axles to go under it I wished it was a 6 with a 205 case"

This is what I asked:

"What does your axles have to do with your trans"

He did not state anything else as to why he needed a C6 when I replyed to him. Now that he has stated that he wants to use 37" big tires I can understand why he posted that. He still can run a C4 with these tires and be just fine but I would upgrade the C4 with some better parts though.

800hp drag car is sissy shit to a trans? You better get a clue my friend!!!
