So I got the truck back from the mechanic after he did a complete rebuild on it.

The reason why I did the rebuilt was because the truck would feel that it was in neutral when I put it on drive so I would have to put the truck on 2 to take off then put it in drive and everything would be good.

So I got it back today and I was told to be nice and general on the pedal but in drive I have to give it some gas for it to take off is that common? If I have the truck on drive and let go of the brake the truck barley moves if not nothing at all. I was told not to accelerate hard but to get the truck moving I have to give it some gas.

I need a opinion as to what I was told or even if the problem was fixed please.

I am a transmission builder in fl and own shop. Other then the converter being a high stall you should be able to give it all the gas you want in any gear. Yes they dont pull much when first put in gear. Thats the stall of the converter. Any place that says there is a break in period is full of crap. Doesnt work that way. If its not perfect take it back.

Yes, +1 ^^^^

An automatic trans doesn't have rings that need to seat, there is no break in period.

If you paid for a full rebuild then it should be, and feel like, a new transmission, because it is

I agree.

Well what do you guys think the problem is now with the transmission?

Takes 2k rpm to get the truck moving on drive

It is extremely common, to the point of being normal, to need to give it some gas to get moving at a stop with an auto. 2000 RPM seems excessive. I think our Explorer, which is mostly the same trans, gets going around 1500. I would check the fluid level before doing anything. Filling an autotragic transmission, particularly reading the dipstick, is more of an art than a science on a dry trans. This is because the idiots that designed them thought it was ok to have to check the fluid through the same hole you fill it through, and so fluid clings to the tube and you get false readings.

I have had more than one trans that I installed after a rebuild look good on the stick after taking about the right amount of fluid per the spec sheet, drive ok, and then a week later come back in saying it slips or needs too much gas on take off, and it is a quart or more off.
