Transfercase swap.

Swapping out a touch electric transfercase to manual. Is there going to be any electrical problems doing this. I have manual hubs also. Any suggestions or issues i should be aware of before I start project? Thanks.

Forgot to mention this is a 1988 ranger.

Not positive...

But if your manual linkage bolts to the tailshaft housing... not all of them will have provisions to do so.

For the electrical... I don't think there are issues. Speedo is cable. Pull the fuse... tape things up just in case you have to go back to electric... it will all still be there.

I bought a 1988 doner truck with manual. Was going to use linkage and transfer out of it. Measured front and read drivelines both are the same length. Looks like a simple swap but just asking. Thanks.

Electrically, no problem. The only issue I see is what Gump mentioned. The shifter linkage mounts to the transmission tailhousing. Your tailhousing may or may not have the threaded holes prepared for that. You may need to get tje tailhousing off the donor truck, if it's he same transnission. Or you may need to drill and tap the holes into the bosses molded onto the tailhousing. With both trucks being 88s, your chances are good that everything is ready for you. But no guarantee.

Are theses the 2 hole you mentioned on tailhousing. If they are yes both on donor and my truck are both threaded. Please confirm this is what we have been discussing. Thanks again. Just want to make sure things go in smoothly. Also having a heck of a time getting shift knows off. Really dont want to put vice grips to it?? Any suggestions there as well?

Yes. Those are the holes where the shifter will mount.

Concerning shift knobs, they aren't meant to come off. They are NOT threaded on like most others. They are molded on over splines and a lip. Careful application of heat might soften them enough to be removed. But, best thing is to just leave them on.

On my first F150 ('88 4x4), the main shift knob eventually got loose to the point where I could spin it and feel the splines inside slipping. But it never did come off. Also, the little disc with the shift pattern on it will get loose and rattle and spin as you drive down the road. But it's held in a deep groove and won't come out easy either.
